Malacca; Chill Deal

Another of those days where I wished I could be out and about traveling around (I know it’s a bad excuse for super backlog post but …), even if it was into our neighbouring country! So I present to you Malacca that I do miss quite a bit and looking forward to heading back again this year end.

You’ll be greeted by this if you’re like me who had traveled to Malacca by bus – this was at the bus central.

Hopped unto a local bus that brought us to our hotel stay for the next few days or alternatively you could also grab a cab. The waiting time for this bus isn’t the shortest but I liked how we got to rub shoulders with the locals and got to know of some nice places to eat while chatting up during the journey.

Upon arriving into Malacca, our first stop was to feed the growling stomach hence it was Nadeje which was located just right next to our hotel. Didn’t expect the choice to be a good one since the place isn’t well know for their mains, but keeping in mind that we had to save some space for deserts. Mom and myself got a chicken salad and club sandwich.

Nadeje Mille Crepe was awesome as usual and has never disappointed me every time I visit.

Melaka Menara Taming Sari (Taming Sari Tower) is a gyro tower, measuring 110 metres in height and it’s revolving structure offers a 360-degree panoramic view of Malacca town. Nope, we didn’t get to get up there, maybe at the next trip?

Yeap, this trip was during last year’s Chirstmas season! Our dinner was at Hatten Hotel; Chatterz which was an international buffet. It was a huge selection of choice and I liked how friendly the servers were too! To digress a little, here’s a post I found online which shows how Hatten Hotel gives back to the society during the festive season!!

And what a view to countdown to Christmas at the Alto Sky Lounge which was located at the 22nd level of the hotel – a great outdoor view that had live music + a DJ who spins through the night.

Got tired of walking around and so Starbucks was the right place to chill and super thankful to FREE WIFI!!

We can never leave Malacca without having a go at the CHENDOL, can we? I have had my fair share of Chendol all around Malacca but this time since we had plans to head down to Tan Kim Hock Product Centre to get some of the local food products (think gula Melaka, coconut candy sweet, dodol…) and this was conveniently available at the Jalan Laksmana’s shop. Not the best tasting ones as I feel that those at Jonker88 was still better but at least I’ve tried.

To end, here are some shots that are UN-Malacca which I had fun opening my eyes to spot while doing touristy stuff.

Best travel buddy I can ever ask for aka MOMMY; and it was home sweet home! Time sure passes quickly while you’re having fun!

So glad that Mommy was most willing to go cafe hoping all the way to Johor Bahru and off we went to Faculty of Caffeine as it was the nearest to the causeway without having to travel far since it was a short trip in. Didn’t order much as we had to keep our stomach for more food to come (I’d write about the Korean BBQ in the next post).

We got the Generous Breakfast (RM 16.50), Minty Lime Punch (RM 7.50) and a Latte (RM 8.50) with a 10% service charge – our food simple and alright, nothing much to rave about but glad that it was at least not disappointing. My only suggestion is to cut down a little on the salt which might have overpowered some good flavours and I think we were also too famished, thus we gobbled down everything in a bite. The drinks were good; minty lime punch for Mom and my latte – awesome! Not quite sure where they get their beans or do they roast their own beans but it was pretty clean on the palate leaving a smooth finish to each mouthful of coffee.

Despite heading there on a weekday, I was expecting no one else other than us, but I was wrong, so let alone the busy weekends! In all, enjoy and let me know what you think if you’ve been there, love to hear your thoughts.

Make your way towards City Square (Johor Bahru) and exit to the back where Maybank/UOB and cross the road towards this mall called Plaza Seni and head upstairs to the 2nd level which you’ll have to pass through a Malay food stall and exit to Jalan Trus which the cafe would be on your right.

I’m hungry

Wanted to take a break from all that Korean postings as I’m stuck with what I should write. So here goes a food post that has been sitting in my draft for a long time. I am always gamed up for food adventures – be it locally or overseas. But in any case, I’m posting this because I’m 101% missing the awesome food in Penang and of course my cousins & their families. Hopefully, I can head back real soon for a short break!!

Char Kwey Theow – the white stuff at the top is authentic crab meat that added a tinge of sweetness in it. Really!

Though not as good as the first Char Kwey Theow, this wasn’t that bad either but I think Mom was being picky.

Penang - Food

The awesomest pancake ever! That had this milky taste if you had it plain or if you wanted a choice of coconut fillings! Both equally GOOD!

Penang - Food

No trip to Malaysia is complete without A&W (if it’s possible) – all thanks to Sillypore not even having 1 outlet! *booohoo* I miss having my WAFFLES daily!

Penang - Food

I still think that A&W is the ONLY place that does the curly fries the right way! As I type this, I’m already drooling!

Penang - Food

THIS Tau huay or known as Tau Fa in cantonese, I cannot stop raving how good it is! Other than the fact that it’s smooth, it’s the syrup that makes it even better! Unlike in Singapore, we use normal sugar syrup but in Malaysia they use Gula Melaka (palm sugar) which makes the consistency + overall taste AWESOME! It was so good that we had to take-away 2 packets each!

Penang - Food

Chee Chong Fan – another of a dish that I can eat daily without getting bored of it! Another dish that has a bit of a difference between Singapore & Malaysia is the choice of sauce. An unusual sauce made up of Har Gao which mostly used only in Malaysia while Singapore uses the sweet sauce.

Work x Eat x Visit

This is a uber duper late entry of my (not so recent) trip to Kuala Lumpur for work. From the 4th – 7th of Aug 2010. Being the first time in a plane, all by myself *cue to sing the LONELY song*, I realised I cannot travel alone! I need someone next to me to share my experience with. Truthfully, there were times that I forgot that I’m all alone, and I’d blurt out a comment and then to shut up in embarrassment.

Though it was a work trip, but being in a land of ‘char siew fan’, ‘chee chong fan’, kopi GAOx2 and many more! I cannot forgo such delicious food! Ps, sorry, not much photos of food because before I can remember to take a snap, it has been gobbled down by me. Hahahaha! I’d let the photos do the talking. I wished I had more time to walk around KL! Boy, do I miss this place! For sure, I’d be back for a holiday instead – EATING!!

Nothing like John Mayer to accompany me through the lonely trip – all alone.

FOOD + SUPER DUPER UBER AWESOME COFFEE

Mr Buzz was a birthday gift to the Boss from his nice colleagues.

Made new friends – Yu-In, Kenji, Chris & William.

Reminisce in the good old times with new additional members to the family – meet the 3 darlings!

Across the border
